In the last two weeks, ransomware dubbed LockerGoga has attacked aluminum manufacturer Norsk Hydro, which announced that as a result of the attack, it had to shut down its worldwide network and chemical companies Hexion and Momentive.
According to reports, each of the companies received similar ransomware messages. One company had to order all new computers because all of its files were lost.
A French engineering company was a victim of the ransomware in January, and based upon the content of the ransomware message, it is believed that Norsk Hydro and the two chemical companies were hit with the same ransomware. Security experts note that there are additional victims that have not been publicly reported.
Norsk Hydro noted that the attack shut down its worldwide network, including all production and office operations, which was a major disruption to its business.
