Kaspersky Lab, a Russian Security firm has reported that hackers have stolen almost $1 billion from banks in 30 countries over the past two years.
The hackers infiltrated banks’ IT systems through regular phishing schemes and confidence scams. Then they took screen shots and video of employees while they were at work. Creepy.
After some time, the hackers became familiar with the banks’ operations and were able to remove funds without notice by programming ATMs and transferring funds to fraudulent accounts.
This reiterates the importance of training employees on data security measures so they are alerted to detect phishing schemes and social engineering that can damage your organization. Increasing the culture of privacy and security in your organization is an essential data risk management tool. And employees will pay attention when you tell them hackers can video them at their desks!
